Millennials present a unique opportunity for brands and small businesses that want to market directly to Generation Y. This group is highly coveted because of their incredible purchasing power. Using this information, the best way to reach Millennials is to get them talking about your brand with their friends online. The only way to do this is to be authentic and to be engaged with them. By showing them that your business cares about them on a personal level, you appeal to their emotions. When you do this, they are more likely to buy from your company and share your content. Creating content that is interesting to them is key so they will share it and will not feel as though they are being sold to.
Millennials are turning more and more to social media to talk about their experiences and also what they like and dislike about brands. This is an incredible opportunity for brands to encourage loyalty in this age group. When they mention your brand or business directly on social media, make sure you engage and respond to them personally. Do not ignore their comments. Instead talk to them. In all likelihood, they will tell their followers that you did so.
Keeping your posts fresh and engaging is another way to appeal to Millennials. If content isn’t appealing and it is not getting the reaction you are hoping for, be sure you are not talking about yourself too much. Try turning the posts into actual conversations. Also, post content that is relevant for the time of year and ask for input (i.e. “Where are you watching fireworks for the Fourth of July this year?). This helps to spark conversations. You can also post teasers to upcoming events, giveaways and contents. This will keep their interest peaked and have them checking back often. Be sure you have a good call-to-action.
