Launching a new product or company can be a daunting task. Trying to come up with creative ideas can seem overwhelming. You don’t need to spend a ton of money to promote your new product or business nowadays. Social media has made it possible for you to connect with a great number of people and encourage engagement for little or no money. Using social media to help market your new launch is the best way to generate interest and followers, which translates to success. Below are some tips that will help you employ social media for your next launch.

1) Use Facebook to Create a Teaser Campaign

First up, brainstorm about how you can use social media to “hint” that something big is coming. You can use Facebook to do this. Months before your launch, you can post random images pertaining to your product. This will generate interest and promote engagement. People will wonder what in the world your idea or product will be. It is a good idea to experiment doing Facebook posts with and without images. You can also share your progress using images and posts. Be sure and not reveal too much too early. Refrain from telling your friends if you can.

2) Create a Special Page or Founders List

Most people enjoy being part of a special group. For your launch, consider creating a specific interest list for those who want to learn more about your launch. You can direct people to a special page where your video would play. People can also sign up for a special list where they’d go to get updates and insider information. By creating this special list, you can build your audience in hopes that they will help spread the word when you do your actual launch.

3) Shoot a Personal Video

You can connect with people using a personal video created by you. Using social media will help you connect with people on a different level and from all walks of life. Your video can showcase the need that your product or business hopes to address, as well as hint at the solution. If possible, reveal your video to a live crowd. This provides maximum results. To create a good teaser video for launching your new product, make sure you start with a script. Record yourself talking and insert photos that support your video. You can record in segments and then edit the audio together. Use a tool such as iMovie or ask a friend that has experience in editing videos to help you bring it all together. Another great tip is to come up with an original score for your video after you’ve recorded audio. This way you own the rights to the music and don’t have to pay to use someone else’s song.

4) Make Weekly “Behind the Scenes” Videos

Now that you have your Founder’s List, you must keep your followers interested. Creating weekly personalized videos can get people excited about your launch. You can create these weekly posts on your smartphone with the click of a few buttons. Make sure you hold your phone in landscape mode so that the video fills up the entire frame. Look directly into the camera and make eye contact to engage your viewers. Try to get someone else to hold phone for you if possible. Consider showing followers a shot of your screen and what you are working on. Such things as outlines, schedules, images, etc. will hold people’s interest. Make sure you keep these weekly videos short so people will want to watch the next one.

5) Be the Subject of an Interview

Using a guest blogger or guest host is not uncommon in marketing. But if you are trying to promote an upcoming launch of your product or business, why not be the subject of an interview? By becoming the guest on your own show, you can focus on providing valuable information. Make sure to let the guest host run the show but provide a few questions he or she can ask you. Also be sure and pick a host who is relatable and pertains to your launch but still resonates with your target market.

6) Use Education as a Way to Launch Your Product

If you make the launch of your new product educational, you are more likely to gain followers and generate interest. Using an existing platform like a blog or podcast can aid in helping you launch your product or business. You can use your own launch as a case example to teach your audience how to launch. For example, you can create a short blurb on your existing social media marketing podcast at the beginning of the show. You can run this segment for 4-5 weeks and make them about 5-10 minutes each. You can focus on different parts of the launch process and include take-home lessons. Your content should be valuable while empathizing tips and techniques. Do not overstate your launch but as much as possible, use it as a case example.

7) Mention Your New Product or Company Across All Your Social Media Platforms

Integrating your launch into various social media avenues is essential to marketing your launch. Examples include mentioning the launch on:

  • a banner ad in your blog
  • in your Twitter bio and background image,
  • your Facebook cover image
  • your podcast
  • your LinkedIn company page
  • your Google+ page
  • your “About us” page

8) Create a Clickable Tweet

You can encourage people to spread the word about your upcoming launch by asking people on your list to tell others. You can include it in your emails. When creating a clickable tweet, reference your Twitter ID and a hashtag in order to track the number of people participating. Be sure and respond to everyone who shares that tweet by saying thank you and engaging. Use informal language in your tweet to make it accessible and understandable.
