We are happy to give the “Companies That Care” spotlight this week to Bird Rock Coffee Roasters, a local La Jolla coffee shop that is committed to serving organic, socially responsible and sustainable coffees. They also love to give back to the community!
The area of Bird Rock in La Jolla is known for being a tight-knit community where friends and neighbors know each other by first names. The owner of Bird Rock Coffee Roasters, Chuck Patton, should know. He’s lived here his whole life, growing up in Pacific Beach and teaching at San Diego City College, until one day when his wife brought him home a coffee roaster. He was forever changed. Bird Rock Coffee Roasters was born in 2006.
Each and every morning at 6am, the double garage doors that face the sidewalk on La Jolla Boulevard roll up at Bird Rock Coffee Roasters and the day begins. Caffeine lovers flock inside to get a taste of the delicious coffee roasting and brewing.
The menu at Bird Rock Coffee Roasters offers organic single origin coffees from places such as Peru, Guatemala, Brazil and Columbia and uses only organic milk. Local San Diego coffee is also brewed daily. Bird Rock Coffee Roasters also offers exotic coffees from Ethiopia, Lake Tawar and Sumatra. There are even tasting notes to guide customers who are feeling adventurous!
What sets Bird Rock Coffee Roasters apart from other coffee houses is the company’s commitment to organic, sustainable and socially responsibly coffees. Bird Rock Coffee Roasters was founded on the premise that the coffee they purchase must exceed a buyer’s expectation for how good coffee can be. Patton believes social responsibility is key. “My goal is to buy more single origin coffees from co-ops and individual farmers so I can put into practice transparency from the field to the cup. To make that link between farm and cup is a thrill not only for me but for our customers who can get more excited about what they are drinking.”
La Jolla’s Bird Rock Coffee Roasters has a deep commitment to maintaining quality on their end and customers have responded well to that commitment. Bird Rock Coffee Roasters have stayed consistent and loyal. La Jolla locals have been hanging out at Bird Rock Coffee Roasters since it opened. The Bird Rock Community Council holds their meetings in the cafe, along with parents and their children from the nearby Bird Rock Elementary School. Bird Rock Coffee Roasters remains civically engaged by supporting events and causes that enrich the local La Jolla community.
Bird Rock Coffee Roasters also offers home delivery service for their tasty coffees! If you live in Bird Rock, La Jolla or Pacific Beach, Bird Rock will deliver coffee to your door in their green GEM electric vehicle! How cool is that?
