We are happy to give the “Companies That Care” spotlight this week to Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps, a local San Diego company that has pioneered USDA certified organic personal care products, created Fair Trade projects across the world that ensure fair and just treatment of farmers and workers, and creates a socially responsible workplace here in the United States.

Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps started in the United States in 1948, using Old World quality soap making and time-honored simplicity. Word spread about the iconic soap and has made it the NUMBER ONE BRAND of natural soaps in North America today. They now have a full line of body care, food and cleaning products.

Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps is known as “The Fighting Soap Company” because they fight for and financially support causes that are close to their hearts and that they truly believe in. Their company is a social engine and they see themselves as a vehicle for advancing and promoting positive change in the world. Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps focuses on these main causes:

  • Organic integrity in personal care
  • Promotion of authentic Fair Trade
  • Re-commercialization of industrial hemp in the United States
  • Labeling genetically engineered foods (foods that contain GMO’s)
  • Animal rights and protection

Dr. Bronner’s other areas of concern include youth support programs, campaigns for peace and human rights, protecting the environment and promoting social justice and equality.

From the beginning, Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps has been a charitable organization and big on giving back. The company has established The Dr. Bronner’s Family Foundation that acts both here at home and across the globe. Almost all the income that isn’t used for the company is given to charitable, social and environmental causes, as well as community development programs. The owners and executives do not receive any bonuses or kickbacks and their employees receive great compensation and benefits.

Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps also helps build school and orphanages, helps organic farm projects across the U.S., supports the local San Diego food bank and donated 1,200 acres of land to the San Diego County Boys and Girls Club!

Corporate social responsibility is huge within Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps. They are dedicated to activism and charitable giving. The products they make, the supply chains they use and their relationship with their employees shows their commitment to progressive values in each part of their business. They are truly an inspiration!
