We are happy to give the “Companies That Care” spotlight this week to Pedal the Cause, the premier cycling fundraiser in San Diego.
The mission of Pedal the Cause is simple. They provide funding for the best cancer research ideas because cancer affects us all in one way or another. Pedal the Cause will take place on September 20 & 21, 2014. 100% of all the net proceeds from Pedal the Cause will stay in San Diego and go towards raising money for cancer research.
This non-profit will be donating all the proceeds to San Diego’s three NCI-designated Cancer Institutes: UCSD Moores Cancer Center, The Salk Institute and Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute. By having these three cancer centers collaborate, there is a greater opportunity to fast-track research “from the bench to the bedside”. Pedal the Cause’s ultimate hope is that the research they are funding through their fundraisers will lead to a cure for cancer and propel San Diego to the forefront of cancer cures and care.
Pedal the Cause was founded in St. Louis in 2009 by Bill Koman. Bill is a two-time lymphoma survivor and wanted to give back to the cancer center where he was treated. Bill has now brought his cancer advocacy and philanthropy to San Diego.
When you register for Pedal the Cause, you are asked to make a $100 donation to Pedal the Cause to kick-start your fundraising. There are four different course options to choose from: 10 mile closed course, 25 miles, 50 miles or a 2-day ride going from La Jolla to Temecula. If you do not want to ride a bike, Pedal the Cause offers a “Virtual Rider Program” that allows you to create a profile, be a part of the team and be a fundraiser. There is also a kid challenge for ages 3 – 12!
P.S. If you’re a local San Diego based company that has a passion for sustainability and giving back, we want to hear about it; learn more about “Companies That Care,” and feel free to contact us! Then tune in every week to see what San Diego business will be featured next!
