Pinterest to Roll Out New “Interest” Page

Pinterest is looking to further personalize their site for the individual user. The social media company recently announced a preview of a new interest-based discovery page. This page will feature suggested pin collections that match your personal tastes.

Although not fully live yet, the new Pinterest “Interest” tool will now help users find pins they like. Pinterest will use the types of pins you’ve collected to offer new ones to you. For example, if you browse a section on gardening and find pins on wall ferns and climbing plants, Pinterest’s new “Interest” page might feature vertical gardens as an option.

Your pins will be laid out in the familiar style, with keywords and phrases listed underneath each pin. Clicking on any of the pins brings you to a collection of related pins (the Pinterest “Interest” page), according to that keyword or phrase of interest. The look and feel of this new Pinterest “Interest” page will be different as well. Instead of the usual same-sized pins, some items on the Pinterest “Interest” page will be bigger than others. This large size will indicate that you are doing more pinning around that topic. According to Pinterest, the Interest page will adapt to your interests over time and the more you use Pinterest, the better the “Interest” page becomes.

Pinterest says the page is still just a preview at this point, as they are still working on improvements and features. It will only be available on desktop when it debuts, but will arrive to mobile “soon”, according to the company.

To try the new Pinterest “Interest” tool, simply look for the “Preview! Explore Interests” link in the Pinterest category menu. From there, you’ll be taken on a short tour of the new Pinterest “Interest” page so you can see exactly how you will be able to use it.

Pinterest says that the new “Interest” tool is only one of many personalization features they will roll out this year.
