Being able to pin a post on Google+ has been something people have wanted for a while and Google finally listened. The feature recently went live for both the Google+ mobile apps and the desktop web.
Both community owners and moderators are able to pin a post. This can be done by simply opening the Community on your mobile app and tapping on the post. In the upper right corner, tap on the gear icon and choose to Pin It (or Unpin It) as needed. You can only pin one post to a community at a time but hopefully the limit will be increased in the future. Being able to pin posts is useful for several reasons, including pinning rules related to the community, making important announcements or promoting upcoming events. Pinning on Google+ lets you control what is or isn’t pinned, bringing convenience and flexibility to Google+ posts.
Moderators and owners on Google+ can now highlight any post that they want people to see. A pinned post will be moved to the top of the community stream, allowing that post more exposure. The Google+ post is marked by a push pin icon and the text “pinned by moderator”. This lets community members know that the post is pinned at the top of the stream. You are now able to add pins to both the iOS and Android device apps.
Google+ also recently added another new feature: finding new people. To the left of the notifications bell icon, there is now a new icon that looks like several people. You can tap on this to bring up the Google+ people recommendations list. This is a list of people you might know or whom Google+ thinks you might know. Each person is listed with their name, profile pic, the number of people who you have in common that you are following and an easy button to click that adds or removes them from a circle or from the recommendations list.
