You might have heard the news that Facebook will be redesigning the look of business pages. Initially is was announced that the change would take place on June 5th, but judging from the look of things, it seems it will roll out to all fans on June 13th. Here is a guide to help you prepare for the upcoming changes:
– ADMIN PANEL –
Admins will have a slightly different view of their pages in the new design. Facebook added key information about the ads you’re running, new likes on your page, and unread notifications and messages, all within the margins of the main view of your page. You will also now have access to the new “Pages To Watch” tool found in your insights tab. Essentially this allows you to see how other Facebook business pages (i.e. your competitors) are faring. In the “Overview” section, you can look at a page’s total likes, new likes, number of posts and their total engagement for the week. By clicking on the “Post” section, you can see the Page’s most engaging posts from the past week. This feature is useful if you want to imitate the posting habits of your competitors who are the most successful. You can also use it to avoid doing what the lesser competitors do. By comprising a list of competitors that perform well, you can watch the number and types of posts they share and the engagement numbers they see. Use this information to tweak your own marketing strategy to see the best results.
– COVER PHOTO –
The dimensions of your Facebook Business cover photo aren’t changing. What is changing is that you will now see your company name, category and Follow/Share buttons overlaid on top of your cover photo. Be sure to check that your cover photo design is still going to look good with the text and buttons on the bottom. Note that the profile photo will be shifting upwards, so you might need to create a new cover photo if your cover and profile photos were customized to work together. Your cover photo will be showing up in all of your tabs now, not just your Timeline tab. Be sure you keep your cover photo engaging and current.
– COMPANY DETAILS –
All of the relevant details about your company and your page can now be found on the left hand side of the page, in boxes like People, About, Apps, Photos, etc. You should decide which are your most important tabs and reorder them so that they are the first two items after the About tab, since you can’t move that one. It will be important to promote your two tabs via contests, events, etc. using visually engaging posts since you will only see two at a time. If you want to increase your exposure, you can promote contests on your website and in Facebook ads as well.
– CUSTOM TABS –
Any custom app tabs you have will now be represented by text links, instead of small images under your cover photo. There will be only two tabs and the rest will be available under the “More” dropdown feature. Your custom app images are now in the Page Information section and will be visible along the left hand side of your page, so make sure you like them. They can be easily changed when making custom tabs.
– NEWSFEED –
The new Facebook design for the News Feed will feature a more organized look. The posts will all be on the right side of the page in a single column, as opposed to alternating left and right sides as before.
The new changes to Facebook’s Business Pages will debut to some degree on the mobile version of Facebook (m.facebook.com) but not in the Facebook mobile app.
