The worlds of social media and SEO are becoming even more intertwined. For digital marketing pros, this means it’s essential to stay on top of changes and trends in not one, but two key marketing spaces. The intersection of SEO and social media encourages a holistic approach to digital marketing campaigns. It’s not about social media OR SEO, it’s now, more than ever, about both. Here’s how you can help ensure that your campaigns give equal weight to the importance of both of these crucial marketing elements.

Craft Your Social Updates with Search in Mind

Facebook and Google+ profiles show up in search and now, so do Twitter updates. This means that tweets should be carefully crafted for not only social media relevance, but search as well. Include eye-catching images in tweets, a link to your website and bite-sized tidbits of enticing information. See the San Diego Padres Twitter account as an example.

Write with Your Target Audience in Mind

You’ve probably heard this refrain time and time again and that’s because it’s an important one. When crafting content from your website–this applies to everything from your blog content to the content on your landing page–optimize for search. This means including, but not stuffing you content with, keywords relevant to your target audience. It also means that images are titled properly for Google to index. Lastly, it means that your content is providing users with valuable information. For example, at the end of each Organik SEO article, you’ll notice that we link to other articles that might be relevant to readers. You can also do this within your blog posts and content throughout your website. This, if done well, extends people’s stay on your site and provides them with even more pertinent, useful information. Everyone wins!

Drive Qualified Traffic to Your Website

Through social media advertising, link building and influencer outreach, you can use the power of social media and SEO to drive qualified traffic to your website. How great is that? Social advertising allows you to drill down and target people who have expressed interest in topics relevant to your industry. For example, if you wanted to encourage people to visit your new natural pet supply store, you might create a Facebook advertising campaign that targets people in the radius of your store who have expressed interest in the brands of pet foods you carry, grooming, local shelters, the Humane Society, etc. Always link back to a landing page on your website where they can receive more information and visit other content on your site.

Link building is a multifaceted approach to SEO that involves other credible, reputable sites that are in the same industry as you linking back to your website. This can be achieved through influencer outreach campaigns in which you ask people to review a product or service, blogger outreach in which you ask to have your content featured on an influencer’s website, submitting your site to relevant directories, or paying for listings of any kind. This could also include submitting your website to an award program in your industry.
