We are happy to give the “Companies That Care” spotlight this week to ToeSox, a sock and footwear company based in Carlsbad that is dedicated to giving back to charities and non-profit organizations in the community and around the world.
Joe and Christina Patterson started ToeSox in 2004 after taking a few yoga classes and noticing that people wanted to wear socks during class. “There were two women in my class wearing regular athletic socks and when the instructor asked them to remove their socks, they refused,” says Patterson. The women were focused on hygiene and warmth, while the instructor was focused on safety due to socks slipping on the mat. Patterson said it exposed a need in the marketplace. The Pattersons had a “Eureka” moment and ToeSox was born.
After much research on designs and materials, the Pattersons started ToeSox in 2004 and patented the Non-Slip Grip of ToeSox. The runner-dotted sole of the sock has become their signature style. ToeSox allow the foot to spread naturally due to the five-toe pocket design. The half-toe and sport-sandal styles were created to meet the demands of their active customers. Using natural materials was a priority to the Pattersons and all ToeSox are made of 100% organic cotton.
The company has grown from a small home-based business to a nationwide brand that sells to 32 countries. Joe Patterson was recently named Entrepreneur of the Year at the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce annual awards dinner. ToeSox keeps growing, all the while keeping its focus on enhancing overall foot health, hygiene and safety.
The company is involved with several causes that are close to their hearts. ToeSox supports Soles4Souls and Clothes4Souls in their mission to give footwear to those less fortunate. ToeSox launched a 1-for-1 promotion to their retail client-base and committed to donate one pair of ToeSox for every pair purchased. Through the campaign, ToeSox has donated nearly 3,000 pairs of toe socks and 3,000 pairs of Five Toe Sandals to Clothes4Souls! ToeSox also sponsors Yoga Rocks the Park, a summer series that celebrates the local San Diego community with music, wellness and yoga for the whole family. A portion of the ticket sales supports the Sean O’Shea Foundation and Kids for Peace. The company also supports the Beagle Freedom Project through Toesox’s Ambassador Kathryn Budig’s favorite ToeSox gear. The mission of Beagle Freedom Project is to rescue beagles used in animal experimentation in research laboratories and give them a chance at life in a loving forever home.
