“Using Business As a Force for Good!” Upcoming B Corp. Event

Using (your) business as a force for good is a core part of being a B Corporation.

This mindset is a driving force behind the vision of Organik SEO, and it’s something that we strived to be our reality even before setting out to become a certified B Corp. business.

The credit for this goal is owed to our owner and founder, Julien Brandt. He’s extremely humble and pretty much refuses to take sole credit for anything where our business is concerned, the term “team player” doesn’t even begin to describe this guy. He aims to ensure that the team as a whole is not only involved in the success and growth of our business, but that our voices are heard, that we’re consistently inspired and passionate about our individual jobs, that we’re contributing and working in unity, that the our Core Values are maintained, that we stand for positive change in the workplace and in the world, and that we understand and embrace the work/life balance…and live it! When it comes to our clients, we strive to work with purpose driven businesses, or at the very least inspire them to be so. Honesty and authenticity are qualities we strive for when working with all of our clients. We want them to genuinely feel like we’re an extension of their team. We also understand the being a B Corp. means to “Be the Change” – which means that in addition to all of the above, we need work consistently on setting an example for businesses to implement positive, sustainable and humane practices in the workplace. All of this and more stand as testament to our belief in “Using Business as a force for good.”

The featured image we chose for this post is just one of the many activities we participate in that makes us a B Corp – our quarterly beach clean-up in our hometown of Solana Beach.

Inward focus would be counterproductive to our responsibility of upholding our a B Corp status. The “good” needs to spread, and we know it’s our job to help grow this concept beyond our own internal efforts. With that in mind, a small but important B Corp event is coming up in San Diego and we’re spreading the word, and hope you will too. Better yet, we hope you’ll join us. Especially if you’re here in southern California and hoping for your business to become a B Corporation – this event is definitely for you!

The “Build a Better Business Workshop” event will be held at the SDGE Energy Innovation Center on Wednesday, July 29th from 8AM to 10:30AM.

The focus of the workshop is to help future B Corp. businesses understand the intricacies, benefits and responsibilities of obtaining and maintaining the certification.

Julien is one of 5 presenters who will be speaking at this event. Other notable presenters Julien will be sharing the stage with include, Frank Scarpaci of VIANOVA, Inc., Kristin Carroll of Rescue Social Change Group, May Harris of For Purpose Law Group, and Amon Rappaport of Brand Purpose, I.D.E.A. All of whom will be there to help attendees to understand what goes into becoming and being a B Corp business.

You can sign-up via Eventbright, and there is also a Facebook Event Page.

A continental breakfast will be served, allowing for attendees to network with other guests and B Corp presenters, followed by a streamlined presentation with an intro, experiences from fellow travelers, and important tips on how to build a better business.

Tip: Be sure to get there early as the first 25 people through the door will receive a copy of the B Corp handbook, “How to Use Business as a Force for Good.”

And lastly, we want to leave you with some key descriptions of what a B Corp. is and means, The B Corp website also offers this thought provoking statement…

“B Corp is to business what Fair Trade certification is to coffee or USDA Organic certification is to milk. B Corps are certified by the nonprofit B Lab to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. Today, there is a growing community of more than 1,000 Certified B Corps from 33 countries and over 60 industries working together toward 1 unifying goal: to redefine success in business.”
